Stress!

Stress is an ever-increasing issue these days, as staying in a prolonged state of fight-or-flight can reduce our quality of life. We respond to stress in the following ways: increased breathing rate, heightened blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, reduce blood flow to the core, and a release of stress hormones like cortisol. When these stress responses are prolonged, this can lead to increased inflammation throughout our body that can cause a huge gamut of diseases. And to make matters worse, not feeling well can only lead to a vicious cycle of more stress (2)!

There are a variety of ways to help deal with stress. Here are a few easy suggestions to try.

  • Relax your breathing. Try to take long deep inhales. Then pause a moment before taking even longer and deeper exhales.
  • Get some exercise! And if you can go outside in the fresh air, even better. Studies have shown that getting your blood flowing and some sun rays really help improve mood.
  • Be grateful. If you feel stressed, take a moment to think of something for which you are very thankful. Focus on the gifts you have been given in life to feel better.

How Can CBD Help Reduce Stress?

In our body, the endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a role in regulating our critical body functions. These include our emotional response, perception of pain, and ability to get to sleep. There are a vast number of cannabinoid receptors in the brain that send chemical signaling messages through the body via the ECS.

CBD interacts with the ECS to result in a variety of beneficial effects on the body. Small studies have shown that the reaction of the ECS to intaking CBD can significantly reduce our stress response (1).

The two main ways we can utilizing the benefits of CBD are via ingestion or by applying it topically. Some people also inhale CBD thru vaping.

  • When to Ingest CBD – Taken orally, CBD can impact many of our internal bodily functions and increase relaxation! Products to try include extracts, edibles, or capsules.
  • When to Apply CBD Topically – Apply CBD topically when you want to focus on a targeted area that needs help. The skin’s many receptors will respond to the CBD rapidly to provide local relief. CBD topicals include a lotion, salve, infused oil, or bath bomb.
